roadmap of graphical elements ?

Postby OpenPavilion on Thu Aug 02, 2007 2:39 pm

Hello,

first of all, I want to say "thank you very much" to all you enthusiasts at Kirix doing that amazing wxAUI thing !!

If you look at Microsofts new Vista and Apple's OSX, Linux KDE4 etc. there are plenty of new visual elements. All vendors offer wonderful and colourful visual toolset - though they all are operating systems dependent.

Please feel free to look at some examples of "new style elements":

Are there any plans at wXAUI to offer more visual elements, comparable to those shown at this link ?
Is there a roadmap of new elements to be added in the future ?

Regards
Pav

Hi there,

We are nearing a release of our toolbar class, which should provide good integration with wxAUI. Other than that, we plan to focus on more docking abilities, especially those described on our roadmap.

Thanks for your message.

All the best,
Ben

Hello Ben,

thank you for your answer ! Finally I made it to the roadmap page :D

When do you expect the next release (about) of wxwidgets and wxAUI ?
Is there a wxwidgets/wxAUI roadmap in combination with dates somewhere ?

Bernd

Hello,

wxAUI is released regularly with wxWidgets. Since last summer, when wxAUI was first integrated with wxWidgets, we haven't made any separate releases. This is because of two reasons: first, most people who use wxAUI usually have a recent version of wxWidgets, and second, many wxAUI features rely on relatively new features inside wxWidgets itself.

So, the next release of wxAUI will happen when the next version of wxWidgets is released. If you need bleeding-edge features or bug fixes, I would recommend getting the latest svn tree of wxWidgets.

All the best,
Ben

Hello Ben,

are there any conceptual design pictures or preview screenshots available on the web concerning the upcoming new toolbar ?

Hey,

Yes, if you want to check out the way the toolbar looks, you can download the beta version of our product, Kirix Strata from http://www.kirix.com. The way it looks in the product is only one mode of the toolbar. Naturally, there are other draggable modes as well.

Best,
Ben

Hello Ben,

I am looking for a flyout menu: when clicking at a toolbar icon (for example: icon with label "text style"), a subwindow should open, showing more icons to choose form (fro example: icons with labels "bold", "italic" etc.). Many applications meanwhile offer the option to open up visual submenus, when clicking onto an icon in the toolbar.

Are there any wxAUI plans for that ?

Hi there,

In a few days, when it's released, check out our wAuiToolBar class. We're in the process of tidying up the code and getting it ready for release, but you should see it before long. It has drop down buttons which seem to do what you are describing.

Thanks,
Ben
