vlookup equivalent in strata

Postby goumie on Mon Aug 01, 2011 11:54 am

Just purchased strata and coming from a heavy excel world.

What I am looking is how I perform a function similar to vlookup in excel...

For example...

I have two tables.

Table1...
key|text
1|ex1
2|ex2
3|ex3

Table2...
key
1
2
3

Basically I would want to link on the 'key' column from table1 to table2 and then add a column in table2 that stores the 'text' value from table1. I am looking for the same functionality you find under vlookup in excel.

Another way to think about this is a SQL join but I want to add a new column in Table2 that stores the matched values perm.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi there,

You should be able to do what you're looking for this via our relationship functionality:

http://www.kirix.com/help/docs/creating ... nships.htm

If you look at the following video (at the 3:48 mark), you can see this how to link a table together and then drag data from one table to the other:

http://videos.kirix.com/screencast/overview.html

It is probably worth watching the whole video for context of what we were doing there. Also, please note that relationships only work when the tables are saved locally -- you can't do these gymnastics on external tables/databases.

Best,
